Closing out Prairie Moon Studio Organization Challenge

This is another one that was a lifesaver for me. It allowed me to have guidance on getting my space in order. Of course, I am now at the point where I've had too much activity and need to do it over again.
I guess I could go back through her challenge and do it on my own. But, what fun is that?

Learning Quilt A Long

I found this site and loved the idea of learning something new and being accountable for it.  Apparently it was not very popular, or the time of year made it more difficult, so she isn't doing it anymore. I hope I can keep on learning in 2018. I wanted to archive it on my blog.

2018 UFO Challenge

I think most of mine will be quilting, but it doesn't have to be.
I did a random draw of the UFO listing I have right now.
Since I don't have any must do ones for next year yet, this was the best way for me this year.

1. Ann’s 2009 NYE Mystery
2. Borachio
3. Chicken makings
4. Color guard pillows
5. Copper and teal quilt
6. Embroidery blocks
7. Home in the Middle
8. Jo’s club retreat teal and brown
9. Misc Fall Blocks
10. Tie One On
11. Under the Sea Quilt
12. Winter Solstice

I don't have photos of these, and I don't have the time to go find them right now.
I might update this when I go through my list one last time before the new year.

Stash Report

quilt paint create links to all our stash reports

Used year to Date:                                       169.15 yards
Total out of stash this Month (December)       9.51 yards
Added this Week:                                             0.00 yards
Added Year to Date:                                        63.00 yards
Goal:                                                             200.00 yards

Net Used in quilts 2017:                                 224.98 yards
A couple of other fun facts are:

Prairie Moon is doing a 350 blocks challenge this year:
Number of equivalent blocks:                    1201
Perimeter in inches                                  11798
Number of UFOs finished this year:              48
UFO Yardage Used                                161.69

Amount of yardage used in UFOs              72%
Number of Spools Used this week            1
Number of Spools Used this year            13

I had a good retreat week.
I'm hoping for more finishes this coming week.
I honestly don't think I'll make the 200 net use of fabric for this year, but I will be close.
I have at least 2 more quilts that will be quilted and bound before the end of the year.
I guess we shall see.
Next year I'm counting bobbins used instead of spools.
I have so many large spools that this is deceiving
I used 5+ bobbins on the trip last week and only used up one end of a spool.

Irish Star

Do you ever make a mistake where you are making more blocks than you need?
Well, I guess that is better than too few.
I have make too make stars and 25 patches.
But, I love this quilt and will wait to see if I can make this larger and then have a smaller version for myself.
The good news is it is all from my scraps, so I've not spent money where I didn't need to.
I need to walk by this a few more times to make sure I like the layout.
I'll be sewing this top together today.

I have a quilt loaded that needs the batting enlarged, so I'll do that today and hope to get some of the quilting done on the large quilt.

I do like this pattern, so maybe it is just meant to be.

Irish Stars

I've finished all the stars and 25 patches for the irish stars quilt.
I will wait until I return home and have a larger design wall to finish laying these out.
They are so pretty.
Check out Wedding Dress Blues for the instructions.

December Learning Quilt A Long

I think I want to work with panels in December.
I have so many panels around that I would like to make some kid quilts and try different settings for panels.
This would allow me to have some donation quilts and improve my designing.

Check out this Learning Quilt A Long.

What would you like to learn this month?

Quilting I go

Last night I was at this point when I stopped for the night.
Today we went on a trip to two quilt shops and then to the hunting area.
I didn't get as much done as I would like, but I had fun.
I ended the evening with this many done.
12 more to go.
Then, I've been working on coaster sets.
DH wants to give some away to the staff that has been doing good things here.
More coasters
and more coasters.
DH likes to feed me.
Winter Solstice is in top form now.
I'll have to find a backing at home and get this quilted.
Maybe this month????

Quilting retreat

My sparkling sampler is as together as I can get it.
I can't find the flying geese or the last of the stars.
I am sure I brought them, but I can't find them.
Soooo I put what I could together and it is ready to work on when I return home.
This is from out patio.
It is beautiful on Lake Conroe.
Irish Stars is coming along.
I do have one more 25 patch to do, but I'm focusing on the stars, 37 to go.
Winter Solstice is coming along.
The design wall is too small for it, but we will do the best we can.
I'll just use it as leader ender for the stars.

So many things I could be working on, but this is fun.

December One Monthly Goal

My December One Monthly Goal will have to be the Irish Stars.
It has to be done by Christmas, so that is a perfect goal.
I have 2 more of the 25 patches and 41 of the stars to complete.
I want this quilt done done in December.

What is your One Monthly Goal?
Go over to Elm Street for inspiration!

One Monthly Goal

My One Monthly Goal was an advent calendar.
I lost track of how wide it was and how heavy it gets with certain things in the pockets.
But, it is done.

Check out the other one monthly goals at Elm Street Quilts.

I'm always amazed at how the background fabric changes the embroidey.
These are fun, immediate gratification projects.

Midweek Matters

Quilt Fabrication has us link up to midweek matters.
Check out the other links.
Well, most of my week has been doing some cutting to get ready for the quilting/hunting trip.
I have all the coasters cut and ready to press and sew.
I now need to finish the cutting on the Irish Stars.
I'd love not to take so much of the scraps with me, but we shall see.
I have 45 more stars and only 2 more 25 patches to go.
One of the 25 patches is almost done, so really only 1 more to cut for.
But, I'll take the background with me and cut there and have as many of the other colors already cut before I leave.

Learning Quilt a Long

Andree at quilt learning combo has a learning challenge going on monthly.
It has caused me to think about things I's like to learn and holds me accountable.

I wanted to work with the African Fabric and follow the design like a whole cloth quilt.
This might have been a mistake.

Well, the things I learned about myself.
1. I don't like the tiny detailed quilting on the long arm.
2. I like speed and overall quilting
3. I would need to do this for a long time to have the tiny motor control needed.
4. Straight lines are easier to do when you keep the machine against the ruler. :)
5. I don't mind short straight lines.
6. It is hard on the hands
7. I needed to have a plan before I started.

it is impossible to get a photo of how I'm stitching it because I'm using a burgundy color on this cloth.
Many straight lines.
Some fills in certain areas.
