two tops done

Well, I decided I wanted to work on these 2 tops tonight. I used them each as leader enders and they were completed together. It worked out perfectly.

This is the Texas quilt I've been working on and it is now in a top form.

I had already cut out the star and it is just pinned on. I think I want to try and make another one that is a bit larger. I think I have to use a full yard of fabric to get it larger. I'm not real good at calculating the piece of fabric starting size. But, the directions for cutting a 5 pointed star works really well.
I decided I needed a quick wedding quilt, and found these blocks done in the UFO cabinet. I'd put the cross fabric in with the blocks, so I was lucky. I decided to arrange them in the cross format and will be quilting feathered hearts in the peach part. I will bind it in green. Might even get this one done this week. That would be good.
It feels good to be making progress. I've not bought anything in a few weeks. YES!!!

Judy is having us do the check in again this year. Accountability is a good thing!

This has been a productive week. I finished 2 quilts I'd been working on.
The purple and white one is done. I love this pattern. It is a bit difficult, but I made it through it!

Then, the red and tan one is finished and I'm happy with it too. I want to make another one of these with the star point going out to the edge of it.

I meant to sew today, but we went out and saw UP as a family. It was fun being together again.

I am done

I finished the 2 quilts I had to get done this weekend. I was gone to a horse camp with these lovely ladies and I had lots of down time. I took 2 quilts to bind with me and got both of them done. I am in the process of washing them, or I'd have photos. This is a big relief for me.

I am now working on a cross quilt that is one of my UFOs, so that is a good thing. I'll be working on the Texas quilt, which is another UFO, at the same time. I'll alternate them as leader/enders and they should both be done soon.

I'll try and post a photo soon.

Where's the week gone?

I've been busy, but no a finish yet.

The red and tan quilt is almost done. I have one side of the binding and the label to sew down. Yes!!

The purple quilt has been quilted and the binding needs to be sewn down. I stitched the label out tonight, so it is ready too.

I've started the extra quilt with the cross blocks I already have on hand. I am setting them in a cross layout. So, that should be interesting.

DH is gone on his house hunting trip, so life has been crazy. I am finally ready with the early bird registration for scouts and the horseback riding paperwork for tomorrow. That will be a fun time for the girls. I'm not driving, so I am going to work on the bindings of the 2 quilts. YES! Maybe they both will be done by the time this weekend is over.

It's quilted

I finished quilting Night Sky. I was not sure what I wanted to do on the purple quilt, so I went ahead and loaded Night Sky and quilted it this evening. Boy are there lots of seams. I needed to be a bit more careful on nesting the seams, but we got through it. I like the way it turned out. The binding is made and I'll sew it on tomorrow and work on it when I can.
Now to get the purple one quilted. Wish I had an idea of what to do. It will talk to me, hopefully soon.

Night Sky top is done!

Well, I finished the Night Sky top. Yes! I wanted to have the star points continue on out, but I wouldn't have had enough background, so I just put the borders on it. I think it is OK. The backing is done.

By the way this is 100% from my stash. The backing is too. That is a good feeling.

Now, do I take a break and finish up the Texas top or do I load the purple quilt?

Night Sky

I have been working on this quilt all day long.
I have one more of block 4 to finish all the blocks.
I am almost ready to get these finished. YES!

I didn't complete anything this week. I did sew, and made some progress, but nothing used that I can account for.

Night Sky

Well, I worked on Night Sky all day long and only finished a few of the blocks. I have 7 more to go. The next 3 are duplicates of the ones I did today and the middle 4 are with the color changes. As I was looking at the photo I noticed that I have a mistake in one of the blocks. The only problem is trying to figure out what to take out is going to be a pain! I'm too tired to try and figure this out tonight, so I'll leave it for in the morning. This is so frustrating.

OK, so I couldn't go to sleep without fixing the problem. I had turned 3 rows the wrong way. Here is the fix. So very much better! LOL I really did finish 3 of the blocks today. Only 6 more to go and the 10th one is laid out ready to sew in the morning.

Wow, it has been all week

Well, it has been almost a week since I posted and life is not any calmer. I've been sewing a little, but not much. It was a week of trying to get Sears to deliver a washer that would work. What a frustrating week. I've never has so much trouble with idiots. I'm tempted to have them remove these and give me my money back. I probably won't buy from Sears anymore!

Taking DD to school on Monday my van wouldn't go. Thank goodness it stopped in the parking lot. Of course, there are some rude parents that wouldn't even help me, and only wanted to honk. Thankfully one Dad helped push the van into a slot and I was out of the driving path. Got the car out later that evening, but it was not cheap.
I did get a couple of blocks together for Night Sky. This one is almost as much work as the purple

quilt was. One of 4 blocks ready to be sewn. I have this plus 2 more of this one and then 3 more of the one below it. This is the layout as I'm putting blocks together. I need 3 more sets of those on the left. Lots and lots of hst and lots of turning to get them in the right order. Mind boggling right now with all the other frustration in my life. Plus, I am not going to have enough background to finish the quilt, so I had to design another way of coloring the center of the star. I think it is going to have a dark star in the middle and maybe a yellow in the center. I'm not 100% sure on that color yet. Thank goodness for EQ.

Judy is having us do the check in again this year. Accountability is a good thing! I'm finally getting some things done and not buying lots of fabric. That helps.

I make teacher appreciation gifts this week. I made notebooks for DD's main teachers. Then, I made tote bags that had a pocket with a teacher apple on them and a birthday notebook. I also made bookmarks, for them along with the towels and potholders.

I've made a wall hanging that needs to be quilted and then it will count.

I finished the purple quilt top that has been a challenge, and will get it quilted as soon as I figure out the backing.

I've been working on the Texas Quilt 9 patches and almost have the white done. I can start sewing things together. They are up on the design wall, but I need to keep looking and moving a few around.

Overall, a productive week.

Purple quilt top done

I've finished the purple quilt top. YES!!! I am happy that I've completed it. Now to get the backing done and quilt this baby. I actually like this one and might be making another one in the future. I have LOTS of purple leftover, so they will wait.

Mystery Wall hanging

I am working on a wall hanging and my purple quilt.
Here is the wall hanging. I don't like this new camera. The color is not accurate. It is so frustrating. But, I like this pattern. Thanks, Kim.
I have one more border on the purple quilt to piece together and then I can add them on. Lots of little pieces that have to be in the right direction. Next will be the solid border that will finish the top.
We are getting a storm. We need the rain, so I hope it continues. No lightening, so that is helpful.

little sewing done

I did another notepad holder for a teacher, actually I did 2. The second one was with embroidery on it.

I also made 2 tote bags for her 2 teachers. These were already done and I added the embroidered pocket and the trim. Quick for me, which was a good thing, because I forgot about them.

Ive been working on Girl Scout stuff today, so not much sewing for me.

Teacher notebooks

Well, I did a little sewing. These are fun to make. I think I'd change a couple of things, but overall, they are quick and easy.

Happy Mother's Day!

Fabric usage goal --100 yards-- 109.17 to go
Fabric Added This Week - .5 yards (a gift from a friend)
Fabric Added Year to Date - 59.25 yards
Fabric Used This Week -6.80 yards
Fabric Used Year to Date - 38.88 yards
Fabric Used this month - 6.3 yards
Net year to date: (9.17) yards (increase)

Judy is having us do the check in again this year. Accountability is a good thing. April was a bad month on fabric gain, but that is the norm for my birth month. May will be better. I'm finally going in the right direction. I have 2 more quilts that need finishing, so I'm hoping I stay that way.

I did finish one quilt this week, so that helps my numbers.

I'm working on 2 as we speak, so that will help even more next week.

Small group

Today was our small group day. Ina was missed lots today.

It started out with a gift from the retreat. Elva made a little notepad that is wonderful. the frontthe inside.

Then, Wanda and Lana held a show and tell for me on what they had accomplished at the retreat. Aren't these great?
Lana's baby quilt. She is going to put chenille on the bird heads.Lana's daisy table runner.Lana is making this for her Mom. She made the backing for it today.Lana's tree quilt. What unique fabric. I've not seen this before.Lana made a Texas Aggie pillow case today.
Wanda's pink and brown quilt that she is commissioned to make.Wanda worked on her disappearing 9-patch today. This is from an old stash and she is making a lap quilt out of it.

We had a new guy come in to visit with us. He brought some show and tell and worked on his Mom's quilt that he is doing by hand. Aren't they beautiful?

My goal was to work on the purple quilt. Well, I did and got the blocks together, except for the one I block where I didn't have enough hst. Makes me mad when I don't count right. But, I have the other pieces and will make it later tonight, I hope.

I also did a couple more strips for the white 9 patches for the Texas quilt. I need to find the ones I've already made. Can't seem to locate them.

Purple Quilt progress

I really like this design. I can't say I like all the small pieces, but the design is going to be fun when I get it done. I have 35 full blocks to make and half blocks. I'm enjoying the process too. I have all these purples and trying to only use a strip or two of them for each step. There are going to be LOTS of different fabrics in this quilt. 4 blocks done and 31 to go.
Tomorrow is my small group meeting. So, I will be sewing on these, until I don't feel like it and then I'll start on the red and tan quilt or the Texas quilt. We shall see what I feel like doing in the morning.

Thursday, May 7, 2009

another day

I finished all the pieces. I the first of 18 blocks for the 54/40 or fight block. I need to do 17 of the cup and saucer blocks

DD has new glasses that darken in the sun. Isn't she cute?

Purple quilt

I'm still working on the purple quilt. This one has lots of little pieces. I have the star points to make and then I can start assembling the quilt top. I'm at least making progress.

I have a weekend quilting group to go to, but there are 3 other things going on. Why is life so complicated?
I'm starting a mystery wall hanging too. These are my fabrics. I was going to do it for myself, but I didn't find material I wanted to use, so this is for a friend. The blue is the background. I think it will be cheerful and might bring a smile to her face. It is 100% from my stash too, so that is nice.
I rearranged some of my fabrics. My novelty fabrics were reduced one full stack, so I did do some damage to them. I've got to figure something out for the greens. They have expanded because of UFOs being completed. Then, the purple expanded because of this purple quilt. I think it just means taking time to rearrange things to have the larger piles fit on the shelves that will hold more.

Carolina Crossroads

Quilted, bound and labeled. YES!!! This one is complete. Now on to the next one.

This is one of mine, so I get to take credit for finishing another UFO and using my stash! YES!

update on projects

Well, today was a day I didn't finish anything, but I made a couple of embroidery pillows for my next door neighbor's daughter's 15th birthday celebration. I still need to sew the second pillow.

I am working on the purple quilt. I counted wrong on the flying geese and need 24 more of them. So, I have those to finish before I can move to the half square triangles and the star points.
I'm still working on the binding for Carolina Crossroads. I have the label done, so maybe in the next couple of days.

Sunday, May 3, 2009

Carolina Crossroads

Well, I quilted Carolina Crossroads. I was not sure what was going on with this quilt. I had border problems, which were a problem from the beginning on this quilt. I got it done. I'm happy to have the binding on ready to hand stitch down. So, now when I go in the car and DH is driving, I'll have something to work on.

Now to do the label. Vicki already digitized it for me. Thank you Vicki!!!

In the down time, I have been working on the purple quilt. Did I tell you all the work I did before was wrong? Got my colors mixed up and in this quilt placement is an important aspect. So, I am working on it again. We shall see how quick I can get it done.

Now, I have NO quilts to be quilted. Nothing in the waiting line and none close to being doing. So, It is a piecing time for me.

Sunday Update

Fabric usage goal --100 yards-- 115.47 to go (going the wrong direction)
Fabric Added This Week - 11 yards (from Marianne)
Fabric Added Year to Date - 58.75 yards
Fabric Used This Week -6.99 yards (or -4.01 cumulative)
Fabric Used Year to Date - 32.08 yards
Fabric Used this month - (11.77) yards
Net year to date: (15.47) yards (increase)

Judy is having us do the check in again this year. Accountability is a good thing, but I sure don't like it when I'm going the wrong way.

This week was a strange week with the Swine Flu scare, so I was not doing great.
I did get a label made for Tammy, and finished the black and white butterfly quilt. But, then I got this wonderful package from Marianne. So, my monthly increase happened again this month. That is 2 months in a row. But, on the bright side, I have the fabric I need for the 2 quilts I couldn't find stuff in my stash for. So, I'm not really complaining (all that much).

I do have Carolina Crossroads loaded on my long arm and hope to get it quilted today. That will mean I'll have a finish and maybe May won't be such a bad month.

quilting weekend

I had hoped to be quilting all weekend, but my mood has not been in it. The one thing about being away and with others, you sew because everyone else is sewing.

We are off school another week for this swine flu stuff, so I know it was the right thing to do to not go, but, i miss it.

My DD and DH were digging a hole. Isn't that fun.

Marianne's quilt done

I finished quilting the baby quilt for Marianne. I did little dinos in the center of the blocks. I had fun doing this.
I'll get it mailed on Monday.
