Hidden Wells

I spent from 7:30 am to 4 pm at the hospital today with Dad.  He had a dye contrast CT scan and then 4 hours of fluids.  After that we went to see the surgeon.  Surgery is next Thursday.

On a positive note, hidden wells is finished.  Everyone loved it at the hospital while I was doing the binding.  I got asked if I quilted for others and then I was asked if I sold my quilts.  Basically, my answer was no.  I actually said it!  LOL
DD is going to be upset with me when she sees how messy her room looks in the photo.  Might help?  Probably not, but a Mom can dream.

To Do update

Well, not a bad weekend, but not a good one either.  I lost a day and part of another one because of my sleepiness.  :(
I've got 3 tops ready to quilt, and think I have backings for all of them.  I hope.
I have all the other smaller items to finish up, and get the quilting done.  Maybe I will have some time this week.

done 1. Put borders on the patriotic star quilt
2. Quilt the patriotic star quilt
done3. Finish the hidden wells quilt top
done 4. Finish the cardinal quilt top
5. Make a screen bag
6. Make a string purse with pockets
7. Finish my red and black table cloth
8. Sampler Society Block #9

I have something new on my design wall.  You know that pink thing on the design curtain?  Well, it is now on my wall.  I have some pinwheels I need to finish up and see what else I need to do with it.  I think this will be another one of those gifts I need to have available.

Hidden Wells

I finished the hidden wells top.  I hope to have enough of the red as the backing.

Whimsical Garden

Of course, it is upside down, but here is the next Whimsical Garden block.

Design wall Monday

Ok, the photos are bad.  I used my camera on my phone and I don't know what I did wrong.  But, you get the basic premise of my design walls.

My curtains have the same quilts as always on them.  I have 4 more of the flower named blocks to do and I can put that together.
The scrap hst project has 4 blocks at the top, I think I only added a couple this week.  I've used other things as leader/enders
The pink one is not moving at all.  I really just need to make those pinwheels and have some fun with it.

Hidden wells will be worked on today.  I worked on the other project on the design wall and finished the top this week.

Thanks to Judy's design wall Monday, it holds me accountable.
Go check out other quilters and what they are working on.

Update on list

Not a good photo, but I have the borders on the patriotic quilt.  For some reaston I decided on the blue inner border instead of white, and I like it.  I have the backing fabric for this one, so that is good.
Update on the weekend listing.  Not a very good coverage, but 2 of the list is done.
I might change my strategy and not quilt anything, but just make the tops and backings to make sure I can quilt them as soon as I can -- next 2 weeks.

done  1. Put borders on the patriotic star quilt
2. Quilt the patriotic star quilt
3. Finish the hidden wells quilt top
done  4. Finish the cardinal quilt top
5. Make a screen bag
6. Make a string purse with pockets
7. Finish my red and black table cloth

Cardinal quilt top

Well, the top is done, but I can't find anything that seems to work with the colors on this quilt.  I don't want to go and buy any fabric for the backing!!!  I have to be missing something in my stash.  I have some green, but it is more lime than this green.  I don't have enough of any of the fabrics, or all of the fabrics to piece a back either.  I'm amazed that my red stash is getting very used up.  I don't have hardly anything in there to help me.  I do have a solid that I might use.  I need to see if it bleeds first.

Cardinal Quilt

I don't normally just show quilts in process, but I need to know I'm doing something.  LOL
The cardinal quilt.  DD wants an off white small border, and then the cardinals.  I might add a red border to it too.

Stash report

I did sew some this week, but I didn't finish anything, and I don't take credit until it is all done.  :(
This looks so much like last week.
Yesterday was a recovery day.  I slept most of the day away, but I feel better today.
Need to go pick DH up from the aiport this evening, so maybe I can get something done before that.  Time will tell

Judy, thanks for keeping us accountable.

The weekend

The week has been with very limited sewing, but I hope this holiday weekend is mostly sewing.
Today was the Schertz Doggie Dash and DD was finishing up her Silver project.  But, as you can see from the photo below, there is a big storm around here.  Someone said they heard a tornado watch in effect north of us.

One positive note for the day is I'm not going to go out much.
So, what is my weekend list (we know I have to have one)

1.  Put borders on the patriotic star quilt
2.  Quilt the patriotic star quilt
3.  Finish the hidden wells quilt
4.  Finish the cardinal quilt
5.  Make a screen bag
6.  Make a string purse with pockets

Wednesday

OK, my day was being on stand by in case the school needed help.
They didn't, so I had some free time.
I cleaned downstairs some and then decided to start this block before I had to leave.
Went to our red hat group.  Such a fun bunch of ladies and we had 11 of us there.  That is unheard of.  LOL
Came home exhausted and had to take DD to the dentist.  By the time we got out of there I was worn out again.  Came home and took a nap.
DD was not up to riding today.
Had to go and get gas for my busy day tomorrow.  How do you like this schedule?
0700 Drop off DD
0815 pick Mom up for an ENT appointment across town (45 minutes or more)
1015 hope to have Mom home from ENT appointment.
Maybe get my nails done if I have the energy and they have the time.
1330 pick up Dad for his surgeon appointment that is across town the other way.(30 minutes or more)
1800 Pick up DD from after school activity. (15 minutes away)
1830 Girl Scout meeting.
I think I will sleep well.

Monday ain't over yet

So, I got the patriotic star quilt off the design wall.  I took it to the small group and what did I do?  I left the white at home on the design wall.  :(  So, it still needs to be finished, but I've started 2 other quilts.  The one on the left is a hidden wells.  This is a darker than normal quilt for me, but it is for a man and should be fine.
The second one is the cardinal fabric and I am snowballing a corner of a large red polka dot with a tan that will end up being a hst and then a smaller snowball ove the tan.  They will be planned kinda like a pinwheel.
That blue thing hanging off to the right is the turtle wall hanging I still need to finish.
Now, my design curtains are holding the sampler society flower named blocks on the left, the waste hst block in the middle and a pink and green quilt on the right.  The far right has Lynne's apocketfulof mystery alphabet blocks.
Do you think tht is enough of having things going?  I only have two of those 5 that are UFOs.  :(  I should be setting my priorities different.  LOL
Check out the other design walls.

Late Stash report

This weekend was so busy that I didn't get this accomplished.  Better late than never.  Today we all had eye appointments and I'm just not really able to see fairly clearly afte getting my eyes dialated. :(

Judy, thanks for keeping us accountable.

Small Sewing group

Got the borders on the horse quilt.  I like the way the bluebonnet fabric brightened the quilt.

this is Judy's quilt made from a jelly rolls.  I love the colors and the simplicity of it.

Lana is doing the hidden wells in green.  I think this is definitely the green quilt.
I started working on a hidden wells myself.

Progress

The Patriotic star UFO center is now sewn together.  :)

I will now put a small white border and then a larger blue border around this quilt.

Pillows finished

I have made a total of 6 patriotic pillows with the leftover UFO blocks

Pillows are so easy to make, and I make sure the back is made like a pocket to allow for the pillow form to me put inside.
I also like the pillow to be fully stuffed, and will run an extra casing around to let it puff more.
So, this one UFO will turn into 7 -- 1 quilt and 6 pillows.  LOL

Pillows

I have been working a few more UFO pillows.  :)
I can almost get to my design wall to sew the quilt together that these star blocks were leftover from.

I'm using up the patriotic fabrics I have, and I had the pillow forms in my cabinet, so I am happy

One patriotic pillow

I am trying to use up these extra blocks from the start quilt.  Here is my first patriotic pillow.

Pillows are so much fun to make.

Caught up

Photos are not all that great because of the light from the window, but I finished the meadow lily block for sampler society.
I would never have tried most of these blocks, so this has been a fun time. 7 down and 5 more to go of these blocks with a flower name in them.  :)
While I've been working on the sampler blocks, I am making these from my bonus hst.  They are 8" blocks.  I'm thinking I'll set it with 8 blocks wide and 9 blocks long.  With a border, that should be a nice lap quilt.  We shall see how many I do and how big it becomes as we go along
On to the next thing.

Christmas Tulip

I believe this is this week's BOW for the Sampler Society.
That dark color is actually a purple.

I have one more block, the Meadow Lily to be caught up.

Sunflower

Sampler Society Yahoo group is doing a BOW that has flower names in them.
This is the sunflower block.
I have 2 more to do to catch up.  :)

Happy Mother's Day

My Mom and my kids.  :)
we went out and had a nice brunch at the Lackland clubs.
It was a nice day, but it was a long day too.
I am home and quilting, so it has been a GREAT day!

New to me quilt shop

OK, I know I'm a little slow, but Lorena and I found a quilt shop on Thursday that has been there about a year.  She does amazing quilting and I love her shop.

Her shop name is Dborsos Quilt Shop and her patterns are amazing.  She puts applique and piecing together into beautiful work.

Deborah is a wonderful lady and I really want to take some classes at her shop.

Deborah sells her patterns through Painted Pony 'n Quilts.

She's on facebook too at Dborsos Quilt Studio.

Stash report

May is such a busy month

The last teacher gift is my favorite to make and I make all the time.  The coaster.  I've been making these for 10 years since I received a set as a gift.
Made each teacher the colors DD wants them to have.
I then put them inside of sippy cups. These were just a fun way to deliver them.
I hope the teachers enjoyed their appreciation week.
We had fun putting things together.

DD is a trumpet player and the spring concert was this week.  She is so much fun listening to.  I'm so proud of her.  She played this concert with NO voice.  She can still blow, but she can NOT talk.
Then, DS graduated from Alamo Colleges yesterday.

After graduation we found him looking so happy.
Then, just like when he graduated high school and his sister was almost 2, she stole his cap and wore it.  LOL  somethings never change.

Went went out to eat and celebrate and then I did nothing all day long!

Water Bottle carriers

Well, I got all 7 water bottle carriers made.  I  think they turned out OK
DD told me specifics on what colors and what to do, so that's why such a variety.  LOL
I used the thin strips of batting to make the handles.

Didn't use that much fabric, but with the little quilt and all these things I've used over 6 yards this month.

I need one more gift for this week, and I think I will do the ever popular coasters.  Now to decide if I make a set for each one or just one.  LOL  I guess time will tell how much time I have.  This will use up more of the batting too.

Home in the Middle

Home in the middle cat and dog block.  Wish I knew how to make these turn the right way.
I still need to work on my circles.
I started my next whimsical garden.  So many doctor appointments allow me to get this going.

May UFO Pick

Liz picked our May UFO to be my red and black table cloth.

Now, tell me why I don't have any black in the UFO bag?  Oh well, there is plenty of red and if I have any red and black pinwheels, this might be cute.
I need to figure out what goes inside a tablecloth.  Maybe nothing?
I would like it quilted some too.

Floral 4 patch UFO

I finished the binding yesterday.  It is a small quilt, but I think it will be OK for one of the teachers.
This was the second UFO that Liz picked for us to work on in March.  My floral 4 patches made 2 quilts.

A Day of doctor appointments

Well, DH and I had appointments this morning.
My ENT appointment got me a "Good Girl" for not scratching my ears.  LOL
DH's Eye appointment got him a "Good Boy" for not twitching so much.  :)
Then, we came home and got DD for her appointment this afternoon.  She didnt' get as good a report.  Not sure what is causing the problem, but we are trying a different allergy medication to see if that helps with the ears and throat.  I hate San Antonio's allergies, but I love living here.

Got home and finally figured out what I wanted to do for the teachers with the mini candy bars.

A little saying on a magnet, a couple of spiral paper clips and a couple pieces of mini chocolate.  Wrap it in a plastic bag and close with a silver twisty and there is a teacher appreciation gift.

Needless to say, the only thing I got done sewing was some applique, but not done completely.

I did finish the binding on the quilt, but I didn't bring it in from the car.

Changing the design

So, I have finished the wrist rests and working on the water bottle holders.  They are cute and quick.  I'm sorry, I can't find the link.  What I have in my document is not linking properly.  :(  If anyone knows who this tutorial belongs to, let me know so I can give proper credit.  Her bottom is a square bottom and I'm not getting it to line up properly, so the sides are all squishy (if that is a word)
So, I changed the bottom.  Everything else is done the way she says, but I am making my own strap instead of using the webbing.  I don't have webbing in the house and didn't feel like spending any more money right now, so I made my own out of one of the fabrics in the holder.
I will write up the directions for how I've been doing it and anyone can use whichever one they like the best.  :)
I have 5 of the 7 made.  All a little different, and the last 2 will be different from these.

They are easy enough to make that I think these are the things I will make for the Equessence Play Day.  They want some raffle items.
I might even use some of the blocks I have leftover.
These use 11" squares, but they should work with 12" squares.  Might be fun to try.

Working away

Teacher appreciation week has me looking for ideas to make for DD's teachers.
This is a water bottle holder.  The square bottom makes it easier to make, so that is a plus.  I might add on some trim to some of them.  Not using lots of stash, but a little is better than none.
Cardinals
I wish I had the website to show where I got these instructions.  I did change it some, but I would like to acknowledge the person I got the idea from.  If anyone knows, let me know, please.

Patriotic
This makes the 7 I need.
