Design Wall Monday

This is the UFO from Liz for the month.  I had these bulls eye blocks that needed to be made into a quilt.  First, I don't like making them.  They were a swap many years ago, I only had 6.  So, how to set them.  I used fabrics I had in the 30's lines and made do with what I had.  Not the prettiest of quilts, but....
I'm playing with adding some applique to the center blocks, but am not sure yet if I want to go to that trouble.  I just want this one done.  I found some green fabric to add a border and we will see how that goes from there.  If that is not enough, then I'll do piano keys with my 30's scraps.

Stash Report

Judy, thanks for keeping us accountable.

I barely sewed this week.  We had a girl scout camp from 5-9 and I was so exhausted that the only things that got done were what had to be done.
Dad also had surgery to put in a wound vac this week and all the pre-op stuff takes so much time....

Used this Week: 0.05 yards
Used year to Date: 112.37 yards
Added this Week: 0.00 yards
Added Year to Date: 37.25 yards
Monthly usage: 28.58 yards
Net Used for 2013: 66.62 yards

Sampler Society BOM

This is the "Iris" block for the Samper Society BOM of blocks with flower names.  Lots of pieces, but it goes together fairly easy.
I have one more block "Thistle" to complete to have this set of sampler blocks done.
Then comes the setting and finishing.
I hope to do this for an Aunt of mine.

Zinnia done

This block was hard for me.  I don't know why, but it was.  I cut wrong, I sewed wrong, but I finished it.  I loved the way she did the smaller qst process.  She used hst to sew to the base.  It was interesting and one moer of the sampler society blocks.
2 more and I'll be caught up and can put them together.

"F" blocks done

The alphabet BOM is "Friday the Thirteenth".
I had 2 to make to be up to date and got them done today.
This one is mine.  I think I would like the outside another floral, but this will do just fine.

This is for Lynne and I made sure the background fabric was not on the outside.  I like it better.

Design Wall Monday

The main design wall can't be shown, since it is a mystery.  But, my design cutrains are there.  Two projects on them.  The left is the sampler with flower names blocks.  I have 3 more to do and then I can put that together.  The one on the right is the long term bonus triangle block.  I really like this one.
Check out the other sites from Judy's blog.

Happy Father's Day!

Wishing all the Fathers out there a wonderful fun filled day.

I'm not sure what we are doing.  My Dad is still not up to going out to eat, and DH is still sleeping.  We shall see what happens as the day progresses.

Stash report

Judy, thanks for keeping us accountable.

I did lots of sewing this week, but only one completion, so the numbers have not changed.
When these are completed, I'll have another great week. :)

Saturday is done

I worked on this lovely BIG pillow for a wedding gift that was needed for today.
I got it done.  Not 100% happy, but it is OK.
I now need to work on the quilt.  It is not done.  :(*  I hate not having things done on time.  But, life has been really crazy lately and I procrastinated on this way too long.
I love the colors and learned that I need to make sure the rings have a variety of values in them.  The darker one is not to my liking, but I like the variety of colors.
I also learned that there is a way to put the rows of the double wedding ring quilt togehther and making it like this is not that way.  LOL
I am going to make the rings up and then align them to the white after I get them all made.  I found that I got better when I did a couple rather than one section at a time.  Practice makes perfect.
So, I will start cutting A and B sections to sew them together with a variety of fabrics.  I have them all pulled and just need to cut.

Birthday FQs

I didn't get this photo posted when I received them, but thought I'd show you while I was cleaning up my studio.
I think I will be able to use these in a patriotic scrappy quilt, don't you?
Thank you all the birthday club ladies.
It always amazes me that I have only seen 2 of all these FQs.  LOL

Tuesday

I'm still working on testing the mystery, so I can't show photos of what I'm doing.

Judy did a video on her way to do machine binding, check it out.
I normally do mine by hand because I enjoy it most of the time.  It wasn't so long ago that I hated doing hand binding.  LOL  Now, it is relaxing.
Today has been a day of doctors for DD and DH.  Spent over 2 hours there, and wish I had a binding to do.

Off we go to horseback riding for DD.  When we get home, I hope we can get some things done.

Design Wall Monday

This was not completed for the teacher gift.  That's the second year I didn't get this one done.  :(  But, I guess it is meant for someone else.
That stack of stuff on the right side pinned to the design wall are the pinwheels patches I need to finish to finish this quilt.  I'm thinking of adding another row to the quilt since I have more panels.  We shall see how the pinwheels go and what else happens.  I know there will be more black through the center to balance it out.  Why is it I get myself into these perdicaments?

Liz UFO #8

Liz had us list 10 UFOs we were to work on this year.  She pulls a number each month and that is what we are to finish.  Well, I've not been so good at that the last few months.  My DD's horse panel quilt was the April UFO #8.   I didn't have it done because I was having trouble getting it all to fit together.  But, this is the finished quilt and one more UFO done.

Now to finish the May and June UFOs that were drawn.  LOL

Stash Report

Judy, thanks for keeping us accountable. This is my best week.  I had lots of finishes because DD has lots of end of school gifts.  I did have a bit that came in from my birthday FQs that were sent to me.  I sent the same amount out last year, so in reality it is a wash, but I still have to count it.
Used this Week: 25.57 yards
Used year to Date: 110.68 yards
Added this Week: 4.75 yards (all birthday FQs)
Added Year to Date: 37.25 yards
Net Used for 2013: 64.93 yards

I like these kinds of weeks.  LOL  But, I was busy and I was in the doctors office most of the day.

Today is my quilting small group and I am going to enjoy myself.

Horse quilt quilted

Well, I finally got the horse quilt quilted.  I'm sewing on the binding to sew down tomorrow at the surgery appointment.  I have no idea how long I'm going to be there, but the binding will be started.

Another UFO finish

Remember this on the design wall?  It has taken a long time, but it is done!

I'm not sure who is the lucky recipient, but it is finished and will no longer be on my list.
I had to take Dad to a stress test -- 3 hours long and an echo -- about half an hour.  The only problem was I didn't have the right needle.  I only had applique needles and they are very sharp on the pushing finger.  Ouch.  It is done and ready to wash.

I wanted to load the horse quilt, but I am so tired from the last 2 months that I can't seem to figure out how to cut the batting.  Might have to piece it.
That will just have to wait until another day.

I am stitching out labels.  They are not going as smooth as I would like, and I truly think I am buying some software to make my own.  I know the learning curve will be high, but I would like to be able to adjust.

Design Wall Monday

OK, so this is another UFO.  You might remember it from the design wall curtains.  I decided to move it over and try to finish it.  I have lots of the tiny pinwheels ready to cut apart and make 2 of the same pinwheels.  I really dislike that process.  The hst process of sewing on either side of diagonal lines and then cutting the square apart to have 8 hst.  Not for me.  Anyway, I have it started and need to use those pinwheels and see about making this quilt.  I do have more of the panels, so I could make the quilt larger.  We shall see what happens.  I am thinking of putting more black aroundthat center strip with the birds.  The panel came with one of the sides with black on it, so I'm using that to go by.  I have a number of different pinks, yellows and greens that I will use around the blocks.  I like the checkerboard effect.

Finishes

Finished 2 bindings today.
This is an old UFO.  The star blocks were going to be set with sashing, but I saw this type of setting recently.  I think it had only 5 strips, so I made it with 6 and it fit the blocks.  I really like it.  I finished it while waiting for Mom at the eye doctor.  Everyone commented on it while it was in my lap.
Finished this on the way to the doctor.  This is NOT one of my UFOs.  I saw this setting, but it was for a square quilt.  I don't care for square quilts, so, I adjusted the setting.

I've loaded another quilt to have ready to bind at the doctor office tomorrow.

Purse done

Still working on gifts.  Having trouble transferring files today.  Not sure why.

Apron for the principal at DD's school

Screen bag.  I didn't have a pattern, but had one made and instructions for another bag.  Tried to make this similar.  It's done, but what a chore.  LOL

More coasters

I just found out that some of the staff love purple and red.  When Ashley handed out the pretty scarves, some chose the purple and red colors, so I think this might just fit the bill for one teacher gift.
Now to figure out a male gift.  Not sure what to do.

Coasters

I hate it when I don't know what to make.  So, coasters win out.  Folks love them and they are quick, easy and useful.

Stash Report

Judy, thanks for keeping us accountable.  If I had not bought fabric this week, I would have been doing great.  I also have 2 quilts that are in the binding process that have to be done by Thursday, so....next week should be good.
