Purse made

I needed to get this purse done. It had to be made from fabric from the person and then using a pattern designated by the swap hostess. I was sent one black and white print fabric and a blue.purple.teal flower print. I didn't like the two as a lining, so I used another of my black and white print, split the pattern and then made a flower out of the flower print. I added some streamers and a Believe tag. I added a second pocket to the inside of the purse. I love pockets. LOL Hope she likes it.

Sunday Report

This was a tough week for me. I was at a Girl Scout Day Camp for 5 days. LOL I was so worn out from the 100 degree temps that I didn't do anything but put DD to bed and get myself to bed.

I didn't get a report in last week because of planning for this camp (found out on Friday I had to do all the shopping and prep for the fabric part of a badge.)

So, this is a report for the last 2 weeks.

My Stash report for the week to keep up with Judy is as follows:

Fabric usage goal --100 yards {50.1 to go}

Fabric Added This Week - 0 yards

Fabric Added Year to Date - 40.93 yards

Fabric Used This Week - 9.98 yards

Fabric Used Year to Date - 83.07 yards

Fabric Used this Month 16.73 yards

Net year to date: 49.9 yards USED this year!!!

The things I finished the last 2 weeks are:

Robyn's GS quilt
Shontelle's Horse quilt
BDB
Cool Ties
butterfly fabric for camp

Some other wonderful news is that my friend that had her neck surgery came through it with flying colors. She is still in lots of pain, but is at home recovering. Thanks for all the prayers.

One down, one to go

I finished the binding and label on Shontelle's Horse Quilt just in time for her to have it before her Mom goes into surgery tomorrow. Now, DD wants to have one in green and purple, but hers is pink and brown.

If you happen to think about it, say a few prayers for Dar at 9 am CST while she undergoes neck surgery. This is a critical time because her bones are very brittle.

Before you go

On the site of this song, be sure to click on "The story behind . . . " This is very moving.

AFTER reading this...BE SURE to click on the link at the very end.
The elderly parking lot attendant wasn't in a good mood! Neither was Sam Bierstock. It was around 1 a.m., and Bierstock, a Delray Beach, Fla., eye doctor, business consultant, corporate speaker and musician, was bone tired after appearing at an event.
He pulled up in his car, and the parking attendant began to speak. 'I took two bullets for this country and look what I'm doing,' he said bitterly.
At first, Bierstock didn't know what to say to the World War II veteran. But he rolled down his window and told the man, 'Really, from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you.'
Then the old soldier began to cry.
'That really got to me,' Bierstock says.
Cut to today.

Bierstock, 58, and John Melnick, 54, of Pompano Beach - a member of Bierstock's band, Dr. Sam and the Managed Care Band - have written a song inspired by that old soldier in the airport parking lot. The mournful 'Before You Go' does more than salute those who fought in WWII. It encourages people to go out of their way to thank the aging warriors before they die.
'If we had lost that particular war, our whole way of life would have been shot,' says Bierstock, who plays harmonica. 'The WW II soldiers are now dying at the rate of about 2,000 every day. I thought we needed to thank them.'
The song is striking a chord. Within four days of Bierstock placing it on the Web, the song and accompanying photo essay have bounced around nine countries, producing tears and heartfelt thanks from veterans, their sons and daughters and grandchildren.

'It made me cry,' wrote one veteran's son. Another sent an e-mail saying that only after his father consumed several glasses of wine would he discuss ' the unspeakable horrors' he and other soldiers had witnessed in places such as Anzio , Iwo Jima, Bataan and Omaha Beach . 'I can never thank them enough,' the son wrote. 'Thank you for thinking about them.'
Bierstock and Melnick thought about shipping it off to a professional singer, maybe a Lee Greenwood type, but because time was running out for so many veterans, they decided it was best to release it quickly, for free, on the Web. They've sent the song to Senator John McCain and others in Washington . Already they have been invited to perform it in Houston for a Veterans Day tribute - this after just a few days on the Web. They hope every veteran inAmerica gets a chance to hear it.
GOD BLESS every EVERY veteran...and THANK you to those of you veterans who may receive this ! !

Girl Scout Quilt Done

I finished the binding yesterday. Yea!!! It is done and ready for presentation.

I finished quilting the horse quilt for Shontelle. I was being lead to finish that one first, and now to do the binding while I wait for DS today.

I have the love quilt loaded and will be working on it tonight - if I can find energy to do it.
Moving along, but now I have a summer cold. Probably going in and out of the air conditioning and swimming almost daily. I think I need to let my skin rest a bit from the sun. I can take DD, but I'm not sure I can get out in the sun.

Sunday's progress

I sewed some, cleaned some, swam allot and enjoyed my Sunday.

I have the top done on the horse quilt for DD's best friend -- the purple and green one. Still need to do the pink and brown quilt for my DD.

I made a place mat purse. Dar wanted one with the top rolled down. Too thick to sew through, but I made it. Wouldn't suggest it, but.....

I have the love quilt ready to load, but something is telling me to work on the horse quilt and get it done quickly.

I have the binding almost done on the Girl Scout quilt, so that is almost complete too. I need it for Thursday.

Not too bad of a day for a mini migraine. :)

My list:
1. Make backing for GS quilt Done
2. Quilt GS quilt Done
3. Label and bind GS quilt Almost done
4. Finish Shontelle's horse quilt top's center (I think I am going to make it longer) Done
5. Load Love Quilt
6. Birthday block re-sewn

It is done!

Toady was the 3rd grade graduation/awards ceremony. This is the teacher getting the quilt and DD.

I spent all day in the classroom helping to pack and moving the teacher. We are getting smaller next year and they are doing away with the portables, so we have to move the few 3rd grade teachers to make room.

I worked on the binding in the car on the way to the day camp meeting.

Then, I came home and worked on it til it was done.

Mama Duck did the work on the label, and I stitched it out before I left. I love it. Thank you for helping me out again.

I hope she will be happy with it. Her favorite colors are green and pink. The green is softer than the photo shows.

I also started to work on the girl scout quilt that has to be done by next Thursday (12 Jun 08). I am playing with the layout to see what I can come up with. I also need to plan the awards ceremony. We shall see what happens. LOL

I feel good! The quilt is done!!
