Testing

Well, I've not done lots of sewing the last few days because a teacher at DD's school asked me for help in copying a huge amount of stuff. So, I spent the end of the week at school. I was worn out at the end of the day.

this morning I got up and started looking at e-mail. I found some designs I had not tried before, so that is what I'm doing! This cat almost looks like DS's not so much an angel of a cat.

I put the blue and yellow quilt up to make sure the backing was large enough. Tight, but think I can make it work. Now to get the batting the right size. I need to piece a little on it.

I need to work on Girl Scout stuff. I don't wanna.

I did mend a comforter for DS's roommate. It is ready to go back.

I did a little cleaning and straightening.

I am making more 4 patches for the love quilt. I think I like brown and red. Of course I do, I have brown, red and black in my dining room and kitchen. LOL

Love quilt update

Well, not much sewing done today, but I did finish the friendship stars (I might need to rearrange a couple of them) and started on the checkerboards. I think I need to make 80 or maybe 160 of the 2 patches. I'm thinking I want to add the checkerboards at the top and bottom too. That would add another 8 inches to the quilt. Right now the quilt is 48 x 56. I'll see what I think the design needs to make it work. I'm happy I got to work on it at all today.

My leader enders are the hst that I need and the blue strips for the 9 patches. I don't know why I'm doing both, must be ADD???

Sam's club caused us to be sold out of cookies. Yes!!!! So, now I need to get 12 samoas and 6 trefoils for another customer. Then, we have 30 some odd gift of caring boxes to give to the Intrepid at Ft Sam. We are closing in on the end of the cookie time. So far, we are 100% balanced on the cookies. Hope it stays that way.

Quiltathon

Well, I missed that we were doing a quiltathon this weekend with Judy, but I did sew some last night. I made 3 friendship stars. LOL Better than nothing. I also laid out the Love quilt stars and think I have a plan. I need to make 4 more friendship stars and then two checkerboard strips 48 inches long. If it looks OK, then I can start sewing the rows together and make this happen.

I have a quilt ready to load, but the backing is having some problems. I need to square it up and see what needs to be done. I had hopes of loading it today.

I also started to make the 192 hst for Judy's quilt. I'll post a photo when the hsts are done. I'm using the wondercut and making it scrappy. Will probably end up a gift for the end of school.

Then, we have our cookie booth for DD's GS troop at Sam's club. So, that will take about 3 hours out of my day.

I've been cleaning up the sewing area bit by bit, so I am actually beginning to see progress. Only problem is I lost a Brown I wanted to use on this quilt.

Sunday accountability

Fabric usage goal --100 yards-- 86.59 to go

Fabric Added This Week - 0.00 yards

Fabric Added Year to Date - 1.00 yards

Fabric Used This Week - .1.35 yards

Fabric Used Year to Date - 14.41 yards

Fabric Used this Month - 2.63 yards

Judy is having us do the check in again this year. Accountability is a good thing.

I made 2 Valentines pillows that counted as UFO finishes and actual finishes.

I am working on my Texas Quilt UFO and finished all the red 9-patches. They don't count this week because the quilt is not finished. I still need to make the blue and white 9-patches to have the quilt top done. That is using lots of scraps and lots of 9-patches.
I did quilt a QOV this week, so that is no stash buster, but it is a completion.

Love quilt

I started working on the Love quilt block layout. I have an idea and now need to work it out. I made a few friendship stars and still need to make 4 more. I have enough for a square quilt. I am not sure I like that, so I'll have to figure out what to do to make it longer. I like to have them up on the wall for awhile and then play with the layout as the day goes by.
I think it will be a nice quilt when I finish it.

Love quilt begun

This is for a Misfit's husband. He has had a great amount of problems from an on the job injury. So, we are making a brown and red quilt for him.

I think I need to make more friendship stars, but won't know until I get to the design point.

The blocks are nice in person. The window washes out the colors.

QOV #67 quilted

I finally got to the quilting of one of the QOVs I needed to quilt.
Look, I did feathered hearts. I like to do these. Don't like feathers, but hearts are fun.

I have a few more QOVs to do. I need to look and see if I can use the variegated thread and if so, I'll go ahead and quilt it instead of working on Vicki's quilt. This thread makes such a mess that I will really have to clean the whole machine extra special to work on a yellow and blue quilt.

Well, she is moving around. I can't say she is moving quickly, but she is OK. Thanks for all the prayers this week for Ms Judy.

Prayers, please

Well, today was a day of no sewing. I was hurting from pulling my back on Monday and went back to bed for half the day. I felt great when I got up! Yea!!

Off to horseback riding tonight. I even got talked into riding. I don't think I've been on a horse for 40 years. LOL But, it was going great, and then the instructor's horse got out of control and she was thrown. She hit her head and was bleeding. Thank God I was in the arena and could get down from my horse quickly. I got to her and she was convulsing a little. Told DH to call 911. The problem, we didn't have the address and we are out in the country. DH found a magazine and got the paramedics on their way. Once the convulsing stopped and we noticed the blood from the back of her head. DH was there and gave me his shirt. Put it and pressure on the back of the head. She was coherent, but had trouble with certain questions. She kept trying to get up, but I finally got her to stay still and let me put pressure on her head. Nothing else was readily showing damage. The paramedics were there in about 5 minutes. I kept her talking. She was having trouble remembering what happened and kept trying to remember. DD was having a hard time seeing someone she cares about hurt and on the ground. I couldn't comfort her, except for words because I was applying pressure. We finally got her in medical care and all the questions we could answer given the the medics. She is currently at the hospital in a great deal of pain. We don't know the results of any of the tests yet, so please say prayers for Judy and her family and mine.

I'm great in a crisis, but now I'm having trouble sleeping. I don't do blood well at all. I'm surprised I made it through all of that. DD is finally sleeping, and I hope can get a good rest tonight.

Thanks for the prayers.

Another pillow done

Well, the 2 gifts I HAD to have done this week are done. Woo Hoo. I like the little pillows. I wonder if I should make covers for my pillows on my couch and do that instead of using the blocks for a wall hanging? I really love my red wall hanging I got for Christmas from Kim, so I don't need one for my kitchen anymore.

Decisions, decisions.

I could use to get some actual quilting done soon. Hoping it is tomorrow. Won't count for fabric usage, but it will count to get it done and out of my house. LOL

One Valentine pillow done

Well, I decided I didn't have the umph to make 2 wall hangings -- actually 3. So, I am making 2 pillows for DD's teachers. This is the first one finished. I could have had the other one done if I had measured the block correctly. So, now I know and I can get the other one done.

Love block made

I have a couple of brown and brown & red blocks to make for love quilts. This is a block I made for a BOM I did on a yahoo group a few years ago. So, I decided to try this one for a man's love quilt.
One more thing off my list.

braid quilt

Kim challenged us to do this braid quilt. Well, I had winnings from Stashbusters and nothing planned for them. None of them really went with each other, so it was going to have to be 100% scrappy. So, I did add in some extra purples and decided to add purple borders to tie it all together.
I got the backing put together too.
100% from my stash!!! That feels good.
Now to get it quilted.

Sunday update on Saturday

Fabric usage goal --100 yards-- 88.60 to go
Fabric Added This Week - 0.00 yards
Fabric Added Year to Date - 1.00 yards
Fabric Used This Week - 0.61 yards

Judy is having us do the check in again this year. Accountability is a good thing.

This week I completed a dog bed for our animal shelter, and 2 love blocks and a birthday block.

I've been working on a Valentines UFO and a mystery quilt and a braid quilt. Nothing is finished there, but some fabric is being used. Soon, there will be lots of fabric usage in the future.

Love blocks

Seems I'm making lots of love blocks lately.

I like these colors - naturally -- reds of course! I was using this block for a table runner and decided it needed to go elsewhere.

Birthday Block

I finished the inner border on the braid quilt and finished a Birthday block. I love this one.

more sewing

I got to sew again today.
Here are 3 of the blocks for a Valentines wall hanging. Now, question is. Do I use these together, make more, or make 3 smaller wall hangings for teachers???? I had planned them for a wall hanging for us. But, I need some gifts. Better make a decision soon. Valentines Day is coming quick.

I decided not to have the braid quilt 7 wide, and stopped at 5 wide. So, there are leftover pieces. Who knows maybe I'll make a pillow to go with it.
I finally got a photo of the blocks for Glenn's quilt. Aren't they nice? There will be more coming in. I'll be making some more friendship stars to fill in spaces.

sewing today

It feels so good to sew. DD was home, but she was asleep allot of the day. Instead of sleeping with her, I sewed.

I made an extra heart block from a Valentine UFO I am working on. I think it might become one of the love blocks I need to send on. I started on another of the heart blocks.

I also made 3 braids and about half of the 4th. I think there are 7 of these for the center of the quilt. I'll try and get photos tomorrow. The camera is downstairs and I keep forgetting to bring it up.

I still need to quilt some things and finish the top for another love quilt. But, it feels good to sew some today.
