Design Wall Monday

     I'm linking to

Small Quilts and Doll Quilts Design Wall Monday and Monday Making.

This is the graduate school project my daughter is working on for her class.
She has to do something to show a gap in the social work arena.
She decided she wanted to make a quilt and came to me for advice and help to complete it.
Her project is the gap in getting vets help with PTSD.
The road in the center depicts some of the stages on the road to health.
She picked out the different parts of the road (pebbles at the beginning, cobblestone next, bricks next, and smooth).
I didn't have any of the first three fabrics, so she picked the picture and printed it on fabric.
This took time putting that road together.
She had never appliqued before.
She practiced on a heart and then finished the road yesterday.
There are footprints on the road.
I need to try a couple of different methods for her to applique them and then teach her to do that.
If anyone has an idea for those tiny footprints, I would love to hear them.
She wants two hearts and some people with expressions and without for alongside the path.
Then, she will want words on the quilt in the spots, but she wants to research a bit more on what she wants the words to depict.
We worked together to find the shape of the people and the words for the puzzle heart.
I did the digitizing because it would have taken too long to teach her that process.
She picked all the fabrics (from my scrap bins) and the thread colors for items.
I think she is doing well with the process.

The T-shirt quilt is coming along.
Of course, this is not the layout, because there are many more shirts.
I'm trying to balance colors as I go.
The school colors are black and silver, so these colorful shirts will be all-around to balance them.

Quilting is more fun than Housework has us working on scraps.
I made postcards from the scrap bin.

The themes were "orange" and "be a doll"

The themes were "traditional piecing" and "Monster

The themes were "Tree" and "Gray"
The gray ones say Elephant Walk on them.

The theme was "Home.
I'm caught up on the swaps I've joined and all of these came from my scrap drawers.
I wish postcards made a dent in the scraps.

I also helped my daughter with a project for her Master's program.
She wants to depict a social injustice in a wall hanging.
She hasn't done lots of quilting and has never appliqued.
But, she is learning and doing well.
We are using scraps for some of the parts.

Remembering 9/11 Attacks

Do you remember where you were during the attacks?
I was on the west coast near Los Angeles.
I had a two-year-old and was still active duty Air Force.
My husband was away on TDY (business travel).
I had not turned the news on and drove to work, like a normal day.
All the way to work, I thought the traffic was extremely light.
I got to the base and went to the child care center and it was closed.
When I called my office to figure out what was happening, I was told to go home there had been a terrorist attack.
They said to make sure my uniform was covered because no one knew what was coming next.
I remember I had a pink jacket in the car and put it over my uniform.
We drove home, but it took much longer because the traffic going that way was dense.
My husband had trouble getting back home because air travel was stopped and the rental cars had already been rented.
Because we lived on base, some friends called to ask if they could come and stay with us.
That was good because we weren't alone.
Never forget what happened twenty years ago.

I've been working on postcards.
I've finished all the swaps I've signed up to swap.

Traditional piecing

Tree

Home
Then, Kimberly Einmo is moving and we are sending her blocks.
I've been doing a Mystery quilt in my small quilt guild and this is the top.
I need to make binding, find a backing, and quilt this.

I feel good about the progress.
It is still taking me lots of time to get things done, but I'm doing it.

Prairie Moon Decluttering Challenge

Deal with paper clutter

I ALWAYS have paper clutter.

I have filed everything and am keeping up on it.
This bag has old papers from my Mom.
She has some poetry, so maybe I can type it in and take care of this.
I'm not sure what else is in there.
This has magazines and miscellaneous stuff in it.
I think there are some receipts in there too.
There are lots of clipboards in here.
I'm not sure what else is there.
I suppose that is what I need to figure out. 😀

Needless to say, I have paper clutter I can be rid of and will work on it this month.

Cleaning distraction

Last night I was looking for a thread to bind a quilt.

I couldn't find it and the thread drawer was a mess.

I didn't take a before photo, but this is how it is now.

I find I don't have much purple or gray in the regular sewing machine thread.
No, I'm not buying more unless I have a project where I MUST have it.

Design Wall Monday

     I'm linking to

Small Quilts and Doll Quilts Design Wall Monday and Monday Making.

I decided to frame the HST project.
Oh, the design is Sonoran Star by Christina Cameli.
The first T-shirt quilt is started.
This is the one with three bags of shirts, so it will take some time to get them all up there.
It is going to be a big quilt.
