I'm back

 I'm so busy and focused on other things that I've not been quilting much.

I didn't even have a finish last week.

It's sad.

I'm preparing for a retreat at Summers Mill in Belton, TX the second weekend in March.

Since I'm in charge, there are lots of emails and conversations.

That takes up lots of time.

Then, DD had a school project requiring a genogram.

So, off we went to figure out her family tree.

That got me to thinking that I don't know much about our family.

You know where that leads a person.

Contact family and get all the information you can and input it into ancestry.com.

That takes time and makes the brain hurt because it is not all that user-friendly.

I'd like to be able to print out stuff, but it doesn't let you see the entire record.

Then, I am teaching a beginning quilting class twice a month at the new Cibolo Senior Center.

I had to plan for the extra time when I was not there on March 11th. 

Then, I got a very bad winter cold and had to pass on my responsibilities to others.

The good news is I had it planned out.

I had to change the plan, but they will sew today.

We were going to finish the heart pillows, but no one else can do applique, so that is on hold until March 25th.

So, we were going to start on a 9-patch/snowball joint quilt on March 11th.

So, they will work on that today while I recover.

I have to replan the March 11th class because I gave it to them to do today.

but, no one wants to teach snowballs on the 11th, so I'll do a small project that they can take home.

I'm thinking about a coaster or kleenex Cover.

Coasters might be more fun, but they need to be able to press everything before sewing.

I'm thinking out loud here.

So, I'm still alive and just a cold going on.

I'm working to get everything together for all my projects.

Quilting is more fun than Housework has us working on scraps.

I did a number of samples with fusing hearts on a white background.

When I finish the pillows, I'll show them.

This is the sample pillow that I ended up giving away.

I suppose I need to do another one so I have a sample for them to see.

 

Prairie Moon Studio Organizing Task

 Our task for the Prairie Moon Organizing task is

Choose your own task.

Clean out under the long arm.

I have things organized under there, but I think some things shouldn't be kept.

Those drawers have wreath-making items in them.

They need to go somewhere else or be donated.

Last one I did well.

National QOV Sew Day

 I wish I'd taken a photo, but I didn't.

There is a Facebook post showing part of the day.

There were about a dozen of us at the Cibolo Grange working on Quilts of Valor.

Barbara Steers brought all sorts of projects to work on.

I made some stars, a churn dash block, and two tumbler quilt tops.

The tumblers were an old UFO Barbara had.

It took the community to help lay it out.

One is a good size for a QOV and the second is a wheelchair QOV.

It was a fun and beautiful day.

Others worked on a 9 patch quilt with a twist of three stars scattered around it.

Design Wall Monday

   Small Quilts and Doll Quilts Design Wall Monday and Monday Making. 

A few more T-shirts are cut.

I'm playing with placement as I cut more shirts.

There is still a bag full.

I want to make sure the color balance is good.

I made seven more blocks (on the left-hand side).

I lost fabric for the 8th one. 😖

But, my friend, Judy, came to my rescue and I'll be finishing that last block of the colorway.

I still have eight more to do with a purple side.

This is the quilt from the Progressive class I took in Biloxi, MS in January 2020.

It feels good to have a change of scenery.

I was down one day because Gammill came and service my machine.

It looks and sounds so much nicer.

I sewed that day, but not to finish anything.

I did find fabric to donate, lots of it.

This became a pillow because I didn't want to make an entire quilt in this paper-pieced pattern. 

It was fun and not that difficult, but very time-consuming.

I didn't have enough fabric to make it a king-sized quilt and didn't have a place to use it the size I had enough fabric to make the quilt.

So, another UFO off the list, but much smaller (1/10 blocks) than planned.

The other things I made this week are postcards, and they are in the section below.

I finished a test table runner, but can't show a photo of the finished product.

A Sewing Day & Other days

 I had some phone calls to make.

I had some projects I had to work on for the next step.

I wanted to sew.

One of the organization challenges has us cleaning out a closet or cabinet.

You can see my post about it here.

I picked the cabinet under my cutting table.

I knew what was under there, but I didn't know.

I found some items I was going to embroider, but haven't in years.

These towels will never get embellished by me.

So, they are being given to my son and DIL because they wanted them.

The other side has all my bonus HST sorted by size.

I have a full bin to trim and add to these bins.

I do make quilts from them, so they are staying.

The top shelf has crazy things.

I have the stuffing for pincushions and snippets for different embellishment projects.

Purse-making supplies, which I'm not sure I will ever use, but couldn't part with at this time.

I have those hand lap quilt frames for when I decide to try that again.

I tossed things I'll not use for stuffing anymore.

I combined like items.

Previously this past week, I quilted another charity quilt.

One more to go.

Then, I was organizing and cleaning the extra bedroom.

I found two trunks I forgot were in there.

They were buried under other containers and "stuff."

When I opened the first trunk, what do I find?

Fabric, of course.

This fabric is novelty and clothes making fabric.

I'll not use them, so they are being donated.

I think the novelty fabric will end up with the Senior Center that is beginning its Beginner Sewing Program.

I'll be helping teach seniors to sew.

The rest of it will go with my friend, Tammy, to her church quilters.

I did sew some, well a lot for me.

I finished testing a table runner, which I can't show a photo to you.

I finished this UFO.

This is from the 2006 timeframe.

It was paper pieced and went together well.

I should make it into a quilt, but I don't want to.

I have other projects I want to finish that I like more than this one for the amount of time it takes to make one block.

So, I will make this into a pillow for our couch and call it done.

During the time I was working on the other projects, I was working on the Log Cabin blocks

I'm missing a 1' x 3.25" piece of the second round.

So, I'm working on the rest of the blocks (7 of them) and will hope to find that small piece.

I felt productive yesterday, and hope it continues for me.

Design Wall Monday

  Small Quilts and Doll Quilts Design Wall Monday and Monday Making. 

 My design walls have not changed since early December. 😟

I've had motivation problems.

I've had health issues for me and the family.

I have not done much finishing, but have finished cutting some things I needed to sew.

Yesterday, I finished two small tops.

They need quilting, so they are not finished.

Maybe that is motivating me and helping me get these finished.

I am ready for them to be off the design walls.

 

The T-shirt is still being stabilized.

I need to make a point of a day to stabilize as much as I can.

There are lots more shirts to stabilize and trim.

It will be a large quilt.

These are the log cabins from my Progressive class in Biloxi, MS with Charlotte Angotti, Kimberly Einmo, and Karen Stone.

These are the blocks from Karen Stone, and I don't think I have many left.

Then becomes the design to put all three blocks together.

I have half of the log cabins in process of completion. 

But, I need one piece of fabric for the final log cabin on this set.

I've asked a friend if they have a 1 x 3.5" piece of fabric they would share.

If not, I'll have to see if I can find any in the store.

As you see, there are still baby clothing blocks hanging on the wall.

Those will be my leader ender project until I sew what I have stabilized and cut.

So, I am sewing, I'm just not completing. 

I am working to do better.
