I took DD along with me and came home with 11 yards of fabric for a quilt and some things for the bathroom. :( :)

In the past I have just visually scanned over posts when I come across the Sunday Stash Reports. But last night I carefully read this post and also the links that you included. Must admit that my curiosity was piqued. I tried to find the start (origin) of this interesting project as I have some questions. Well, just some missing pieces of the puzzle so to speak of how one goes about how to start. I mostly use scraps as opposed to yardage as I found that my happy spot is with tons of fabric choices for each quilt I make. At time tho I do make quilts with just a dozen or so of fabrics, but that isn’t the usual for me. How does one go about measuring when maybe two hundred fabrics are used in one quilt as I often do. My recent snowball quilt hardly has a repeat and the tiny corners are different on each snowball . And my last quilt I pieced is a string bar quilt that is 100” x 100” again with numerous pieces that were gathering over time. And again, a huge variety in fabrics with not a lot of duplicates. And as of today I am almost finished piecing the backing for this quilt. I am making a ‘rag’ back and guessing there are 30+ different fabrics that I have used. I had them all strewn around my quilt room as I was sewing. More or less improvisational style. This quilt is for us and that is my husband’s favorite backing. Takes almost as much time as the front did .
And in addition, I have attended the yearly Keepsake Quilting Sale in Center Harbor NH for 30 years now. Fabulous sale. It’s 3 days of fun and fabric. Many many years ago they started bringing boxes of scraps out to us quilters lined up on their deck waiting to get into the tent sale. We could stuff a baggy for around $4.00 back then but now its $6.99 a baggie. For us professional baggy stuffers we can get up to 6-7 yards per bag. Most are scraps but can find 1/4 yard to 1 1/2 yards also. I attend for the 3 days then spent about 2 weeks ironing and folding my scraps and storing in plastic tubs in the fashion fabric is displayed at quilt shows. Yes I do sort by color. So how would one go about estimating the fabric acquisition in a situation such as this. Thanks for any help and especially where to find how to join in. I think that for me this concept had to germinate for about 6 months for me to see the benefits that probably outweigh weekly the effort. I do appreciate the work and effort of bloggers who make this commitment,

It's always dangerous (but fun) to go shopping with our enablers. All your metrics are so good, you should recover quickly. Hope this week has been as good on the stitching front and better on the stash management efforts.
