How to Make a Fabric Postcard

Materials:

• Pellon 71F for one-sided fusible or Pellon 72F for double-sided (I use the one-sided because I iron on my front.
• Decorations for the front.
• Postcard back
• Thread
• Pressing sheet
• Sewing Machine

• or regular envelope or mail naked

Cut your Pellon 6” across the width of the 71F and sub cut into 4” sections. You should get five (5) 4” x 6” postcards per width.

Postcard front

Pick the fabric to use to decorate your postcard front.

Arrange on the fusible (glue bumps) side of the postcard. Once it is completely covered, iron down according to the directions. Another option is to sew it like a quilt as you go process.

You can leave it this way, or you can embellish by using your decorative stitches to cover the “seams”.

You can quilt the front as you wish, or not at all.

Once you are happy with your postcard front, it is time to work on the back.

Postcard back

               I digitized a back and stitch it out on fabric to use on my swapped postcards.

               Others use a fabric pen and makes the postcard back.

               Others use a stamp to create their postcard back.

Assembly & Finishing

Once the back is ready, I place the front and back wrong sides together and clip with wonder clips to hold in place.

I like to zigzag around the outside. You can straight stitch it, you can bind it, you can add yarn to it or any other finishing style. Anything that will sew the two pieces together works.

After that, address the postcard, write your message and mail off.

First-class postage if mailed in an envelope.

First-class plus additional ounce postage if mailed naked or in a cellophane envelope.

Mailing international is global first-class plus additional ounce.
