Sewbittersweetdesigns is having a Lovely Year of Finishes Challenge.
Check it out.
I want to practice my diagonal stitching on my long arm.
This quilt was done by someone else, but it needs to be quilted very densely.
So, I think diagonal lines would be great.
It will allow me to practice using my ruler with more accuracy.
Come join in.
I wish you the very best of experiences with diagonal longarm quilting! The first time I did that was with feathers. yeah, feathers .. not straight lines. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe most aggravating aspect, for me, of diagonal quilting ... straight lines or feathers or anything else that needs to be continuous .. is that you can only go SO FAR down one quilting path before you have to stop at the belly bar! Once you've quilted all the diagonal lines that you can, you will advance the quilt ...
and THEN comes the aggravating part: you have to line up your new, continued line with the previous stitching so it doesn't LOOK like you had a break. Additionally, you have all those tails from the starts and stops to bury (well, at least I do .. some quilters are able to do teeny-tiny stitches in place to lock the tails so the tails can just be snipped off. I'm too scared to do that! :-) )
As a result, I kinda shy away from diagonal quilting when it needs to go over the entire quilt.
But, that's just me and maybe I was approaching the entire concept incorrectly ... since I don't have a mentor or instructor by my side to show me how "real", "normal" or other quilters do it. :-)
So, forge ahead fearlessly! Your diagonal quilting will be fantastic! :-)
That will be a good quilt to practice long-arm diagonal quilting on!
