update on army baby quilt

Well, with a little focus, I have quite a few squares made. I am needing to make 3 more 9" stars and 1 more 6" star. then, the fun part comes in trying to figure out the puzzle. I will use some camouflage in the spaces to help the stars float a little more. So, here is what I've got done so far.
I'm hoping I can get the other stars made tomorrow and get the top put together before Wed's Weight Watcher meeting (that is where the lady is that this one is being made for).
Now, the question will be -- what do I do for the borders? Ideas?

2009 Stashbusting pledge

OK, I didn't get to download the pledge because the file says it was damaged, but I put one together on my own.
I am pledging to use up 100 yards or more in 2009.

I will focus on working on my UFOs for gifts and donations to others. My UFO cabinet is overflowing and needs help. I keep finding things to add to it. Projects seem to multiply and I don't use them up as quickly as I thought I would. I should review them and make sure my listing is accurate.

I will finish my own king sized bed quilt, so I have one of my quilts on my bed. That will be unique.

I will not overspend on fabrics and will use what I have in my stash before purchasing for a specific project.

I will work on quilting at least 15 minutes each day to help my mental stability and productivity.

Sunday update

Fabric usage goal --100 yards (I've met my goal!!!)
Fabric Added This Week - 0 yards
Fabric Added Year to Date - 49.31 yards
Fabric Used This Week - 14.58 yards
Fabric Used Year to Date - 167.51 yards
Fabric Used this Month - 27.81 yards

Thanks, Judy. I hope we keep on doing this for next year. It has helped me know when I've actually accomplished something. So, what did I work on this week? I finished the NYE Mystery I was testing. I can't show a photo, but everyone loved it. I've also been working on a couple of baby quilts, so when they are accomplished, I'll have more to report. The Heartstrings is still waiting on half the binding to be sewn on. When that is done, more. It has been a productive week for me.

Working on the army baby quilt

I've had fun finding embroidery designs for this quilt. It has the camo background and the gold stars that really pop. I'm working on getting 12", 9" and 6" blocks. I might even make an 18" block for the center. I will be doing the Army shield for the center block. That takes 44 minutes to stitch out, and I need to find a photo to work from for colors. I need to find some smaller designs to make this work right. It is fun playing with the embroidery machine and creating a one of a kind quilt. I'll keep posting updates on my progress.

Sewing again

Well, I've been productive. It feels good to accomplish some of my projects.
I quilted the one heartstrings today and need to get the backing ready for the next one. I still need to bind it.
I finished the birthday block (BDB) for the Birthday runaways group.

I made the first block for the Army quilt. I had trouble with the measurements for the 9" star. Yuck. Oh well, that is OK, I figured it out. The first one I made was not very nice for a baby quilt, so I decided that it was going to have gold in it.
I have made lots of horse embroidery blocks. I need to work to get them ready for DD's quilt. This has been an on-going project. LOL

NYE Mystery finished

I did it!! I finished the binding and label on the NYE mystery. The only problem, I can't share it because Ann won't be presenting it until NYE. But, I love it. It is in the dryer as I type and I can deliver it today for the school to auction off.

Makes me feel good. I'll probably do another one of these on NYE, unless I decide to work on one of my numerous UFOs.

I also made more FSL angels and working on a bdb that I need to get out early this week. I'd lost the fabric and found it yesterday. I love the fabrics I'm using.

QOV #66 completed

I got the QOV quilted and boxed ready to go home. So, now I only have the NYE mystery to do, the friend's quilt that is overdue, or 2 heartstrings to choose from.

I used an overall pattern of leaves on this one.

Thanks, Judy. So, what did I work on this week? I've been working on commitments.

I've got the fabric out for a birthday fq swap.

I've made the extra potholders I needed. large ones for the swap.Smaller ones for extra gifts.

I've sent out the fabric for the bdb swap I do each year with the birthday runaways. That's normally my only block swap. I've worked on the mystery quilt I've been testing (can't show those photos yet).

I've been testing some embroidery designs, and having lots of fun. DD wants on on a T-shirt, so I have to try that soon.
Right now, I'm working on the quilting of a QOV. Maybe I can get it in the mail on Monday. I hope.

Well, DH is going through old, really old photos. I wish I was even close to this weight. Amazing what 13 years and a baby will do to you.

This was taken in San Francisco when we were dating close to 13 years ago.

This is from last year at Christmas.
Makes me want to do something about this extra weight.

cutting up baby clothing

Well, we took at trip north and spent a few hours in the car each way. So, I took the time to cut apart baby clothing. I took a bag of outfits with me and made it all the way through them. My thumb is sore. But, now I can take time and work on getting more squares cut and larger blocks put together. I figured that when I go in and watch TV with DH that I'm going to cut the outfits apart.

So, I have this ready to cut into squares and this to go. LOL This is a LONG process.

I finished the last block on the mystery quilt testing. I like this quilt. I am ready to sew the rows together. Then, I can get it quilted and donated. It feels good to do some sewing.

I need more white thread, and can't find any embroidery thread anywhere close to me. So, I guess I need to order it and wait for it to arrive. I want to make angels and ran out of white.

Saturday and Sunday update

Saturday was my small quilting group monthly meeting. I didn't get to go for all day because DD had a Food Drive for the Girl Scouts. WE have fun there, and I got to go for an afternoon of quilting. I started out trying to make the bug jar, but forgot the pattern and all the sizes I cut for the corners didn't work well. So, I went on to cut out the Pineapple Blossom. I had jelly rolls instead of the 2" strips, so I had to modify the sizes. This is what I got. It makes a 12" block instead of a 9" one. This is going to be really pastel, but they are jelly rolls I've had for a long time. I actually got 1 block made and the rest of the quilt cut out. I'm not sure what the borders are going to be, but....I got something ready to sew.

Lana was working on her retreat quilt. I got a photo of the first border, but didn't get one of the 2 sides of second border.

Wanda, being the overachiever, had lots of baby quilts she did. This one is for her grandson and when she washed it last night, he got to sleep under it. Then, she made these other baby quilts and she started another one.

Ina was working on this pretty Debbie Mum quilt. The border is going to be very scrappy 9-patches .

My fabric usage update is as follows:

Fabric usage goal --100 yards {3.61 to go}
Fabric Added This Week - 0 yards
Fabric Added Year to Date - 49.31 yards
Fabric Used This Week - 3 yards
Fabric Used Year to Date - 145.90 yards
Fabric Used this Month - 3 yards
Net year to date: 96.39 yards USED this year!!!

Thanks, Judy. So, what did I work on this week? I've been working on things, but not finished much. I did send off the 3 yards of fabric to someone that lost all their stash in hurricane Ike.

Mystery workings

Well, I can't show you the results, but I like what is happening . I'm on Clue #8 and love it. I think this is going to be a fun quilt. I'm not sure of the outcome yet, are my fabric choices.
I made a few more FSL angels, and celebrated our 10th anniversary with breakfast out, a movie -- Fireproof your marriage, and dinner out. So, I didn't have to cook today. It was a great day for us.

Wow, it's been a long time

Well it has been awhile since I've taken the time to get on-line and let you know waht I've been up to. Life has taken its toll on me and I've been depressed. So, that keeps me in a cycle. But, I'm working to get out of it. I have been making angels. That doesn't help with the fabric stash, but a machine is running and I need to stay close while it stitches out. I have sent a few off to others in need, and can keep on stitching them for awhile.
What have I done as far as quilting? Just a little. I'm working on testing a mystery, so I can't even share that with you. :( But, come NYE you can see it on lots of sites -- Ann shares her mysteries with lots of folks. There are 11 clues and I'm on #6. IF I could read, I'd be done with it. LOL I didn't make enough hst in the pre-sewing stage because I read the wrong thing. :( All my fault, and now I am making more.
I've been working on catching up on all the mailings. I was behind on UFO Challenge prizes going out. They have been mailed. I have potholders almost ready to leave my home. I've only been to the PO 3 times this week. LOL
I need to load a quilt today and get it ready to quilt. I have so many that still need quilting and mailed off. I have 2 heartstrings, 2 QOVs, my Fall Leaves mystery, and JoAnn's quilt to quilt.
I also have made a mess of the sewing studio, so I'm working on it in 15 minute increments to help me gain more control.
DD's Girl Scouts is busy right now. We got the nuts that she got orders for picked up and we are now collecting money and delivering nuts. :) She is so much fun to go with to get this done. This weekend is the food drive. I hope it doesn't rain on us. Tonight is the meeting and it should be fun with all the things they will be able to use to decorate their binders. They have some things to finish up for the awards ceremony on the 20th, so it is a catch up meeting. :)
I'll try and do better at keeping in touch.
