retirement quilt

OK, this the quilt from Hell. I can't believe all that is wrong with it. Maybe because I'm trying to get it done so quickly.

I had trouble with the size of the blocks because I used the alto cutting system and didn't remeasure. Wrong thing to do. But, I got it together
This is the start of the quilting process.

Now in quilting it, there are some places that have fullness, to be expected.

But, the kicker is when the stylus for EZ-Quilt template's tip broke off. It was not a pretty site to see me in tears and DH not understanding it. But, he went out and found some knitting needles and it worked to finish the quilt. I wouldn't want to do this for a long time, but...

Here is the last row of the Baptist Fans. Yea!!! The quilt is done!!!
The close up of the quilting

I then had him tell me what he wanted on the label. He wanted the AF emblem, which too 63 minutes to stitch out. Add to that the other words and it was a long time. Broke one needle and went on from there. It worked.

Now to do the binding.

Before I could do the binding, I had to put more glitz in DD's Halloween costume. So, the underdress got gold trim and the bag was made for collecting her candy.

My fairy

I didn't get much quilting done, but I made a fairy costume for DD. LOL So, that is my task for Thursday for her to wear on Friday. they had to come as a story character. It was for Don't do drugs week (red ribbon week).

things done

Last night I was exhausted, so I went to bed early.

I had finished making 2 Thanksgiving towels and

one teacher tote bag.

Today, I helped alter a halloween costume for the neighbor -- not sure why because they are not all the nice to DD. But, I did the neighborly thing.

I also finished working on the embroidered blanket. It was way thick. I tried to do the embroidery on it, but it looked bad. So, I did it on a piece of fabric and sewed it to the blanket. I think it turned out OK. Hope Natalie things so too.

I made the backing for the retirement quilt and started to load it.

I made a story book costume for DD. She is a fairy -- wings I bought, but the skirt is tulle and ribbon. Made a ribbon for her hair too. I'll post a photo tomorrow of her in her costume.

retirement top finished

I have the borders on the retirement quilt.

Next step is the backing. It is going to be the same as the outer border. So, that will be fun.

I think I will be quilting baptist fans on this one and do the quilting in a white. I don't think the colored quilting will help it, so something to blend in with all the signatures.
I think I have to wait to quilt it because DH was wanting to add some writing tothe quilt top. I really wanted to get it done NOW!! LOL

busy day

Today was busy with things other than quilting.

Mom and I had our nail appointments and I have spiders on my fingers. LOL

Then, DS and I had the joy of putting the rest of my stash back in the cabinet. It was funny. He was ready to take on the task and the first pile he was complaining about how heavy it was. LOL Oh well, it is all back in place. I actually am surprised that I have so much room. Maybe this stashbusting is working. LOL
After the stash was put back, then we had to tackle the rest of the extra bedroom. Moving all the stuff around and rearranging the room. We have a new dresser -- only one in the room. So, now the TV is on top of the dresser and the bed is on a wall that is long enough to allow something on either side to set lamps or clocks or something on. LOL that dresser was heavy and I'm a tad sore tonight.
Later, I put the inner border on the retirement quilt. Not much, but something.
DD is sick. Sore throat, cough, runny nose, ear ache. So, tomorrow is doctor appointments.

Retirement Quilt

Working on the retirement quilt. DH did the arrangements of the 4" squares. Took him a little time to accomplish that, and then I started to sew it together. Sewed some yesterday, but I was exhausted, so I didn't get much done.

Have a couple of spot where my squares were not square. I used the Alto Cutting system and it didn't get along with me, so ..... I think I will pass on that baby to someone who enjoys it. Let me know if you wanted one of these and we can work something out. :)

Had a couple of times where I had sewn the block in backwards and had to unsew it. But, that was minimal, so I feel blessed.
DH decided he wanted to help pick out the inner border fabric. I think I would have picked a lime green. Surprise. LOL But, that was not what he wanted, so we went with the light blue. I'll do the thin border and then the darker blue on the outside. Not sure what I'll bind it in yet.

starting again

worked on the retirement quilt some, but didn't feel much up to it.
I got my embroidery machine back. Ran into problems with the invoice I had, so I need to talk to the store on Monday.
But, I stitched out a design that was from my daughter.

not real productive

But, I did do some sewing.

I made a pincushion for a swap.

I made the covers and inside cover for the Corn Therapy Bags -- got 4 done. I think I am going to make these in lots of colors to give as gifts this year.

DD can help me in filling them.

Mystery finally finished

I worked on this mystery with Marge from Fabricaholics and I finally made a point to get it finished.
This will be a baby gift for one of the teachers at DD's school.

Heart love blocks

Went to my small group today. It was a funny day. None of us were doing well. LOL Everything we did was wrong and we all had issues all day long. I normally get lots of things done, and today, well, I got 4 love blocks finished. That was better than some today. LOL

Came home and DH and DD were working on the yard. They had the one tree ring all cleaned up and some soil put in the ring. They were both having loads of fun.

We took time to go get Mom and Dad from the airport. They had a good trip to AZ and CA this past week. We went out to eat on the way home and then by the nursery for more stuff for the trees. LOL I worked on the binding of the BOM quilt while we road around town. It is almost half way done.
Came home and set on the porch. I'd really like to do something more with sewing, but I'm not sure it is a good thing.

I'm back

I've been missing in action for a bit because of house issues. DH had decided to do some home improvements and issues came up from that.

Needless to say, I didn't get much sewing done.

I just found out that I needed to have a birthday postcard done, so I made this one up this morning. I used different colored threads to randomly stitch the card, appliqued some pre-made appliques on it and colored in some of the columns. I like the variegated look on the edging. And, it is lime green.

I have quilted 2 quilts and have the binding ready to sew down on them. I am in the process of loading another quilt and will get to it sometime tomorrow (I hope).

I'm also sewing together the mystery quilt I did the other weekend. I have it 1/4 sewn together. A friend called and I talked on the phone instead of sewing, but because I'm so tired, it is probably better that way. LOL

Oh, I gave the 30's quilt to it's owner today. I think she liked it. She was talking about all the family names and the stories. It was a neat time for me.

I have my small group tomorrow, so that will be fun. I'll only get to stay for half the day because I need to get my parents at the airport.

Today was postcard day

I made 2 fabric postcards. One for a fall swap and one for a birthday card. They are fun to make.

I also put up Halloween decorations. It has been brought to my attention that I need to make some Halloween quilts. Bet they don't get done for this year, but should be done for next. LOL

swap purse done

I'm fairly sure my partner doesn't read this blog, so I am posting the swap purse that I just finished.
It was to be purple and rust and was to be a clutch purse.

So, I have purple velveteen with rust decoration. It is my second swap purse.

I quilted with a varigated rust/tan thread

The lining is a purple taffeta -- boy does that ravel.

I finished quilting the BOM quilt for a friend. I need to figure out the binding and get it done and in the mail

DH finished my cabinets and half my fabric is back in place. I pray this works. He did move the shelves some and now I need to adjust where I put what fabrics. :(

quilting the last few days

I've been exhausted with all that is going on.

I did get the binding done on the old 30's quilt. These are feedsacks, and very old.

It looks to be a family heirloom with the names embroidered on it. I think the Baptist fans did well on it.

I had hoped to pass it on, but the owner is in Arkansas until Wed. So, I will keep it until them.

I worked on a mystery by Marge today. I don't have a photo of it. It will become a baby quilt for one of the teachers.

I received 2 birthday blocks from my Birthday runaways group

I am in a glitzy purse swap, and played with this purple one today. It was not difficult, but I didn't like the way the fusible fleece made the purse feel. It is too wobbly (is that a word?). I am going to try it again with a stiffer interfacing and see if I like it better. Maybe I just need to make the flap with stiffer interfacing?

DH was working on my shelves to make sure they do not fall again. I think he is about half done. He ran out of hardware and had to go get some more. Then we both ran out of steam, so I don't think the baby quilt is going to be finished tonight and I don't think the shelves are going to be finished either.

Little things done

I put a backing together for a patriotic quilt. Now to get it loaded and quilted and sent off.

Got the binding on the 30's quilt and now to sew it down. My goal is to have it done by Sunday so I can deliver it to the lady at church.

Delivered 2 Quilts With Love Quilts to be bound for someone else.

Did lots of running around for the scouts.

Did some mending and some filing. Lots more to do. Yuck.

unproductive day

Well, I was sitting at the computer and starting my day like always. What happens? A crash from the fabric cabinet. 2 shelves are down. Not sure why, but am thinking the guy did not fix the problem. So, I have to unload the shelves. I asked DH to contact the folks. I couldn't do it again. He is not sure they are going to do anything but replace the shelf. Seems that if they are going to take the cabinet out and replace it, we have to pay for the labor. It is the cabinet in the corner and would need for ALL the other cabinets to be taken out. So, DH is going to fix it with another method. We shall see how long it takes and what can be done. Praying it is soon. I was just getting the motivation to get the fabric back in the cabinets.

Praying for a better day tomorrow.
