A good day of quilting

QOV #55 is done. It was a Texas Hold 'em fabric squares with a Minkee backing. Never done a Minkee quilt before. I was concerned, but by loading it the way I was instructed, all went well. I decided to not over quilt this one, and did the outline of Texas in the blocks and then simple line in the black strips. That Minkee is NICE to touch. Someone is going to love this one.

I got the QWL #15 ready for mailing. This means I have 15 more to get finished.

My next project was to work on another QWL. I got QWL #16 quilted today. Need the binding sewn on and then I'll pass it on to Lena for the finishing touch.

I made binding for the 30's quilt, put away more fabric, and cleaned up the desk. Why does the desk always collect stuff???

I think I broke the embroidery machine

I finished the old quilt, and the Baptist fans went OK this time. I had some issues with the rollers, but think I now know what DD is doing when standing there -- rolling the roller down. But, I figured that out and it is quilted. Now I need to bind it and return it to the rightful owner.
I made 3 totes today. This one is the only one I had a problem with and boy what a problem. I think I broke the self threading part of the machine. How, I don't know. I'll call tomorrow and see if someone can help me over the phone. We shall see how good their service is. I had one issue of the top thread sensor saying it was broke all the time. I fixed that with a good cleaning, but not the needle threader. Now sure where this is supposed to be, but it can't be where it is right now.

Teacher bag

I didn't do much sewing today or yesterday. But, I did load the old quilt to do the Baptist Fans on it and then will bind in muslin.

I made this teacher tote. The PTC wanted to know if I could do tote bags, and I'd never done them, so I tried it and this is what I got.

Diva Pumpkin Welcome sign

My first ever applique on the embroidery machine.

I have lots of need of practice, but it is a good start.

I need to get some wire to finish it off.

Kim's King Sized quilt is quilted

I've been worrying about this quilt. It is by far not perfect. Kim said to practice. I find that I need to pay attention to the process, because you can easily (or at least I can) get lost on this template. LOL But, It is now done and I can get it ready to mail off.
Next is doing the Baptist Fan on an OLD quilt top. It will not take all that long. After I quilt it, I need to find it. I think I am going to use the muslin I got for the backing as the binding. I do not have any of the fabrics in the top and all my 30's prints are too bright. So, I think the muslin is the best bet.

Baptist Fans

Well, I had the king sized quilt loaded and it is big. The backing is almost as large as I can load.
I started the Baptist Fan template, and was having thread problems. So, when I could not get it to work, I changed threads and it is OK. I think I have the concept down. Now to practice. Thanks to the long arm chat group, I was able to see the tutorial on using these and it is now making more sense. Of course, I have to re look at them when I start a new row, but that is OK. LOL
Not much quilting done lately because of family. Hoping family "issues" calm down and I can play some more.

doll quilt #3

I only had time to put together another little doll quilt. So, this is doll quilt #3. I hope to get some more done, but will be doing them as I get to them. LOL Probably be doing starter/enders.
Not 100% happy with the diappearing 9 patch when it is scrappy. If I do this again, I will not put them together until it is time to lay out the quilt.
Live and learn.

Tuesday, September 18, 2007

I made a couple of small doll quilts for Kim's Girl Scout troop to tie and then donate at her guild.

Recognize the disappearing 9 patches???

Next on the list was to make some love blocks for Cathy O. Angels or owls with bright colors. So, I did angels and Mother. Hope they are OK for her to use.

Secret stitcher swap arrived

Well, I got a present today. It was from my secret stitcher on a group. I got all these pretty Christmas fabrics and panels. DD wanted to claim them as hers. LOL So, I will have to keep an eye on them. This will be fun to add to my stash and make some Christmas items in the next couple of months.
This is the quilt I'll start on later this week. It is going to take a bit to pin it on to quilt. It is going to be quilted with Baptist Fans. Don't know how long and she wants DD to pick out the thread color. So, that will be done tomorrow.

Quilting

I spent today quilting quilts.

First I finished quilting QWL #16 with a large meandering stitch. I have 14 more to go.

Then, I quilted the QOV #54. I ended up doing swirls for its quilting.
This means that I have finished all of Patty's quilts and can deliver them this week.
I have one more QOV here and I will be caught up on the QOVs in my possession.

Love blocks

Made a few blocks for a love quilt for a special friend. Loaded a QWL to quilt tomorrow.

QOV #53 quilted

Finished the stars and circles on the QOV #53. This is detailed and LOTS of starts and stops. I think it turned out OK.
Yesterday I had another QOV dropped off. It is simple with lots of card fabrics. I need something for it.
I still have one QOV from Patty (the one that pieced this top) and I think it will look good with the basic overall design. I'm trying to decide if I want to do a Baptist fan on it and get ready for the King sized one I need to do, or if I do something simple. Not sure yet.

Went to the San Antonio Quilt Show

Well, I didn't think I was going to get there. DH changed his flight and came in at 1130 instead of 1530. :( But, he took me to lunch and then dropped me off until 1800 and I had a blast. Quilters are such fun people.

This is what I got at the show.

No fabric for me.

I got some stuff to make a rug out of 1" strips of fabric. Maybe I can get some nice rugs in my kitchen now. I hope I bought the book that went with it. I got the Quilted cross book, and Strippin' Time book. I got some charms that have a pattern with it for a gift. (no, I'm not telling who it is for), a thread holder, a thread feeder, two small name tag "bags". a tea cup card, a waste basket, 5 towels for teachers, 2 earrings, a kep ring, a pin, fun socks for DD, a purse pattern, an embroidery disk, a Christmas ornament, 2 new Xblock rulers, and a seam ripper that is supposed to be easier to use.

I had fun, and was proud tht I didn't buy fabric for me.

IT IS FINISHED

Yeah, the round robin that had to be enlarged is bound and DONE!!!
Here is DD enjoying the new quilt. She squealed with joy when she saw it on her bed.
Boy is that thing heavy. LOL
I'm now quilting the next QOV and let me tell you I didn't think it through. LOL It is LOTS of starts and stops. But, it will be nice when it is done. I'm just trying to get too many things done at one time.

block testing

Well, I tried sewing this block together, and it is a mess. :(
I must have stretched my bias too much. I need to make a few more to see how to adjust my sewing. The block itself came out very close to 12.5", but it is even and the points will be lost if sewn together. So, more practice is needed.
I did finish quilting the one QWL. Now to get the binding on and handed over for someone to finish hand sewing the binding.
I really need to work on a PP quilt top. Need some movtivation.
Oh, I showed Mom DD's quilt, and would you believe I have less than half a side to finish on the binding? WE didn't do Karate tonight because DD twisted her ankle a little and needed to rest it.

Still binding

Well, I did lots of running around with DS today. I did get about and hour and 15 minutes waiting at the doctors for him, so I worked on the binding while sitting in the car. I have 2.5 sides done. So, it is coming along. She is getting excited.

I started to quilt the QWL and my thread is breaking. I am in NO mood to play with that tonight, so I think I'll shut down and try again tomorrow.

It probably is the needle, but it has been one of those days, so until tomorrow.

UFO binding in process

I have been working on the binding on the UFO round robin for DD. I am about 1/4 done. LOL I have a doctors appointment to take DS to tomorrow, so I think I'll be working on it then. I am hoping to have it done by the end of the week and have it on her bed.

I loaded another QWL tonight. I need to clean and oil the machine, change the needle, change the thread from the variegated pink to a black thread. This is a darker quilt. LOL So, Maybe I will be able to quilt on this one tomorrow.

Oh, I cleaned on my sewing area, but the vacuum needs to be fixed. I think the belt on the brush broke. I don't have the umph to do it tonight, so maybe I'll talk DS into doing it tomorrow for me.

Small Quilting Group Day

What a fun day I had. My small quilting group met from 8-4 and had a blast. There were only 3 of us, but we had fun. Can't say I got lots done, but I had fun. LOL

I put the corners on my feathered star. Now I need to quilt it and embellish it. Then I will be binding it in a dark blue.

Next, I played with the leftover 9 patches that I have been putting together. I wanted something different, so I tried the disappearing 9 patch process. This is what I got by using 9-patches in the 6",

9" and 12" sizes. Aren't they fun?

I also needed to make some bow ties for a love quilt. So, I pulled the 3.5" squares I had 4 of the same color and made them up. Seems I have lots of purple 3.5" squares. LOL Hope these are OK.

Lana made 2 pillowcases.

Wanda made 2 pillowcases and then was working on a strip pieced stained glass quilt. Can't wait to see how that one comes out.

Still quilting the UFO round robin

Well, got it loaded, the machine ready to quilt. Started to do the quilting. Have an idea of doing swirls. Well, the swirls turned into flowers. Doing flowers and meandering and outlining of the embroidery and other parts take a long time. LOL But, I wanted to quilt this one a little closer together because of the type of use it will get. LOL So, I am about half way done.

I found out that the little quilting group I joined last month is meeting tomorrow. I was not sure, but got the call tonight. My to do listing is:
1. Ocean Waves -- I have leftover hst that I need to use. Most have a white background, so it is going to be white and colors. I have 8 done, and think I need at least 24 to make a decent sized quilt.
2. Disappearing 9-patch. I want to try this pattern out. I will use the leftover 9 patches I have been using as starter/enders and give it a try. I have 6", 9" and 12" 9 patches. I'm going to play and see what I come up with.
3. Continue to use the left over 9 patches for starter/enders.
4. Put the corners on my Feathered Star and make the backing for it.
5. Blue and White Christmas Quilt. Get some input on whether I need to add a small white border and then another blue border, or leave it the way it is. I also need to make the backing for this one.
6. Sew a label on a QOV and get it ready to mail.
7. Start the Paper pieced Future Heirlooms quilt. I need to get this done this month.

To much to finish, but I like to take all I can with me in case I get bored and need some help. LOL

UFO

Well, I woke up with a sore throat, so I rested more than I did anything else.
I did put the backing together for the UFO round robin for DD. It is also loaded on the long arm.
I need to clean the machine, load the new thread -- I think I am using variegated pink for this. I will need to make multi-colored binding for it too. She had a hard time figuring out what color she wants, so she settled on lots of colors. I will use up some of my leftover bindings and if I need more, I'll use some of the leftover pieces from the quilt.
I'm hoping to quilt it tomorrow. Hope I feel better.

Got some quilting done

I finished the sewing on of the binding by machine for the QWL and have it ready to pass on for the hand sewing of the binding.

I finished loading the QOV and have it finished. I used navy blue thread and just meandered with stars thrown in. The piecer did this quilt and brought her Quilters Dream batting (that is what she said it was). I did not like the amount of bearding that happened with this batting.

I do like the pattern. I think it could be done without paper piecing by doing a rail fence and snowballing the two corners to get the center block. I like this quilt.

I have to share my geisha girl. LOL This is what she is going to be for Halloween. I think I need to figure out something for her hair, get some white makeup, gold sandles and some kind of oriental purse for her candy. LOL

BDB done

I did work on a birthday block. Darting birds is the name of the block. I think it would be pretty with a two color combination.
I am also working on binding a QWL quilt. I need to deliver it to a lady that is doing some of the bindings for me. :) That helps out lots.

I also have one I'm loading on the long arm. Once I get it loaded, I should be able to quilt it in a couple of hours. I'm meandering with stars thrown in. That one is a QOV. I need to get it and 2 others done soon.
But, after the one QOV I need to do my daughter's quilt that was the round robin.
Then, I need to do a quilt for a civilian employee that is in Kuwait. I really want to get that done quickly. But, all in its own time. LOL
I did load another shelf -- at least 2 of the 3 stacks on that shelf. I am having trouble sorting my novelty fabrics. I have 7 piles I can sort it into. I'm sure I want to have: 1. flowers 2. girls 3. boys 4. Hawaiian 5. fruits/vegetables 6. holidays (Easter, Halloween, Valentines...) But, there are some that don't fit any category, so maybe the next is 7. Miscellaneous?

mystery again

I just cut out a mystery quilt that Marge of Delaware Quilts is doing. It is an easy one, or so she says. Only 4.5" and 8.5" squares. hummmm makes you wonder, but that is the fun of a mystery. I decided to go 100% scrappy. I needed 42 light 4.5" squares, 42 med/dark 4.5" squares, and 21 8.5" med/dark squares. So, I used novelty fabrics. I find the one thing I am missing in my stash is lights. Lots of mediums, many darks, but only a few true lights.

I also looked at a mystery that Cindy is doing. I am having trouble figuring out which fabrics to choose for it. I really would like to have an idea of who it was going to before I started it, but I don't have a NEED right at this moment. I'm sure one will come up, but not a current need.

Saturday, September 1, 2007

Have the QOV washed and ready for mailing. Need to get the destination from June and I'll be ready to go.

This QWL came home on Friday. One of the Karate Moms is helping me do the bindings. She wanted another one, and I had not done any quilting this past week, so I didn't have one for her.
So, I have finished the quilting on another QWL and will put the binding on this weekend. I'll take it to Karate next week so she can have one to work on. I really need to get one I can work on too.
